Zoo Knoxville Youth Volunteer Program

Designed for students aged 13-17 interested in animal care, wildlife conservation, and education, Zoo Knoxville youth volunteers will get hands-on experience while developing leadership, communication, and customer service skills.

 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 13 years or older by April 1, 2024.
  • Provide a one-time program fee of $50. Fee waivers may be available upon request.
  • Serve a minimum of 50 hours per calendar year.
  • Attend volunteer meetings- these are currently held online via Zoom.
  • Maintain a Zoo Knoxville membership- volunteers receive a discounted membership. This can be purchased once you begin volunteering.

At this time, applications for the 2024 youth volunteer class are now closed. Please check back in the fall for information on how to apply for our 2025 class. Applications are set to open around Knox County’s Fall Break.

2024 Adult Volunteer Program

 

YEAR ROUND VOLUNTEER PROGRAM OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Sharing information about the zoo’s animals, habitats and conservation programs with zoo guests
  • Assisting zoo staff with educational programs both on and off zoo grounds
  • Helping zoo staff with special events like BOO! at the zoo and Zoo Camp
  • Working behind-the-scenes to help with the zoo’s day-to-day operations

 

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Attend a 2-day new volunteer training workshop
  • Maintain an annual zoo pass
  • Adults pay a $75 uniform and training fee
  • Volunteer a minimum of 50 hours of service annually
  • Volunteer scheduling is based on the volunteer’s availability
