Remembering Natalie Haslam
Zoo Knoxville mourns the passing of Natalie L. Haslam, a beloved community leader, philanthropist, and long-time Zoo Knoxville supporter whose life of service profoundly impacted Knoxville and beyond. A native Knoxvillian and tireless volunteer, Mrs. Haslam dedicated her life to strengthening the cultural, educational, and civic fabric of our region. Her compassionate leadership and generous spirit touched countless lives through her work with organizations across the arts, education, conservation, and community service.
Mrs. Haslam’s contributions to Zoo Knoxville as a board member reflected her deep commitment to enriching the lives of both people and animals. Her guidance and support helped shape the institution’s mission and allowed us to expand our impact in conservation education and community engagement. She was also a founding supporter of Zoofari, Zoo Knoxville’s premier fundraising gala, which was created at her suggestion and has since become one of the Zoo’s most important annual traditions.
“Mrs. Haslam was a valued member of the Zoo Knoxville family, serving as a board member and steadfast supporter of our mission,” said Bill Street, President and CEO of Zoo Knoxville. “Her guidance and generosity helped advance our work in conservation, education, and community engagement, ensuring that Zoo Knoxville remains a place where people can connect with wildlife and be inspired to protect the natural world.”
“Natalie Haslam embodied the very best of Knoxville,” said Russ Watkins, Chairman of the Board at Zoo Knoxville. “Her heart for service, her deep love for this community, and her unwavering commitment to making a difference were truly extraordinary. We are grateful for her leadership, her kindness, and the lasting legacy she leaves behind at Zoo Knoxville and throughout our city.”
Beyond her many civic roles, Natalie Haslam’s legacy endures in the transformative gifts she and her family made to Zoo Knoxville and the many cultural and educational organizations throughout Tennessee.
Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to service continue to inspire us. We honor her memory and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who were touched by her remarkable life.
