North American River Otter

Located in a beautiful wooded section on the eastern end of the zoo, our North American River Otter habitat allows an up-close experience. Watch our girls as they swim and hunt. Lively and mischievous, our girls each have their own fun behaviors, from watching people to swimming while carefully balancing a rock on their nose. Our girls are very vocal, and their playful squeals can often be heard from visitor viewing.

Location

North America

Found throughout North America with the exception of deserts and treeless tundra, the North American River Otter surprisingly enjoys both fresh and salt water. More active at dawn and dusk during warm weather, this species becomes diurnal during the colder winter months, making them a perfect stop on a chilly day.
